A Regional Transition Model for Waterschap de Dommel and linked stakeholders to address sustainability challenges in a systematic and cost-beneficial way, towards the Next Generation Wastewater Chain.

VISION

A Regional Transition Model for Waterschap de Dommel and linked stakeholders (e.g. industry, business), providers (e.g. service, IP), startups (e.g. food, energy), investors and banks - to address sustainability challenges in a systematic and cost-beneficial way. The model offers a bankable (predictable) solution that relieves individual and collective pains and maximizes gains in a cost-beneficial way. Current wastewater infrastructure will serve as a sustainable source of materials + energy that will substitute fossil, non-recyclable materials, and reduce CO2 emitted in the city (e.g. treatment) and outside (e.g. food value chain). Transition of a 1 MLN people equivalent (PE) regional scale can be completed by 2036, at a cost of 200 MLN euros, and a benefit of 1 BLN euros. By working together on this project, we can co-create a trusted ecosystem, co-develop shared IP, competencies and standards, and distribute globally.

DETAILS 

My idea contains five parts: an Introduction, a Physical Solution, a Business Model, a Plan of Action, and a Digital Platform, which together constitute a project for a region-scale sustainable transition until 2036.

1. An Introduction describes a system boundary, key challenges in the wastewater (WW) sector, and the vision for the next generation WW chain.

2. The Physical Solution describes how sustainable technologies are applied between individual and community scales of the WW chain, to reach maximum feasibility and positive systemic impact.

3. The Business Model describes a value proposition to each participant of the solution and potential future benefits for the future consortia.

4. The Plan of Action describes steps, and costs necessary for the implementation of the Physical Solution, from validation towards a pilot, and a scale-up. 

5. The Digital Solution describes a marketplace for the valorization of recovered resources and an AI for value chain management i.e. assets, data, IP, solutions, infrastructure, network - developed along 1-4.
